Recently, there have been several announcements of lottery results for new homes, most of which cater to small families. The general desire is to maximize every inch of space, ensuring comfortable living for every family member. A particular challenge is to accommodate the domestic helper in a limited space, ensuring she has her private area. DECOLAND presents a simple design for a 494 sq ft new home with two and a half rooms for your reference!
There haven't been major spatial changes in the unit. First, the wall near the entrance of the kitchen was slightly modified, ensuring enough space for both the washing machine and refrigerator. The master bedroom, guest room, and living room all feature windows, ensuring plenty of natural light. The helper's room is located near the entrance and is designed with a bunk bed, providing ample private and storage space for the domestic helper.
Design-wise, the primary colors are white, light wood, and light brown. The chosen furniture follows the popular wood trend, and when combined with the natural light in the unit, it gives a very soothing and natural ambiance. The master bedroom door is designed to be concealed, and wooden slats visually separate the living room and dining area, extending as part of the TV cabinet. The proportion of wood and white is just right.
The master bedroom continues the living room's design, equipped with a wardrobe, dressing table, and platform bed. Every inch of space is utilized, with ample storage without unnecessary decor – very practical.
In the bathroom, the wall and floor tiles are primarily in light gray. The sink cabinet is designed to be floating, with LED lights below, greatly enhancing the sense of space.
For the kitchen, designing to accommodate both a washing machine and refrigerator can be challenging. However, slightly pushing back the kitchen wall considerably increases the usable space.
This new home renovation, including design fees, costs approximately $395,000. Typically, if you engage a designer for such a project, it might cost $500,000 or even more. So, besides aesthetics, the designer also considered practicality and the homeowner's budget. After all, owning a home is already a significant expense; it's ideal if renovation costs can be minimized. Thus, major spatial changes are minimal, and there's limited custom-built furniture. Even when choosing off-the-shelf furniture, color coordination is straightforward.
